As a part of Crimson Defense's Mission Statements, we strive to inspire the next generations of cyber security professionals. We encourage our club members to volunteer their time to help run and administer STEM and cyber security competitions for youth. This allows them to not only hone their cyber skills, but also engage with the community in valuable ways, encouraging the next generations to explore the field they love most.
Volunteering and helping out has greatly helped me and my motivation to progress towards my career goals in the cyber security field. It's helped me realize that I want to help spread awareness of the importance of cyber security in our day to day lives and the impact of cyber-attacks.
- Baylee Pugh, UACTF Volunteer of the Year 2024
Every Spring, Crimson Defense Cyber Security Club hosts UACTF, a high school CTF Competition! High school students compete from across the state of Alabama and beyond in teams of 1-4 with one goal: solve as many cyber security challenges as possible! These challenges are created by Crimson Defense students, and include topics such as:
Open Source Intelligence, Cryptography, Steganography, Reverse Engineering, Forensics, Password Cracking, Log & Network Analysis, and Web Exploits.
Earn volunteer hours making cyber security challenges, participating in set-up, and helping us run UACTF! Ask our Competition Team Captain for more details!
UACTF 2026 will be held on Saturday, Feb 28, 2026!
Crimson Defense writes training guides to help introduce students to cyber security concepts! Check out the 2025 versions here:
Crimson Defense members who specialize in encryption and cryptography helped run the Codebusters event at the 2024 and 2025 Science Olympiad University of Alabama regional. Our club members with Science Olympiad experience created this year's Codebusters B and C test, as well as administered the test the day of the competition!
